SASKATOON – FEBRUARY 15 2022 – La Troupe du Jour and Persephone Theatre are excited to announce that they will be co-presenting Manman La Mer at the Backstage Stage from March 3 to 6. March 3-5 at 7:30pm and March 6 @ 2:00pm.
The play will be presented in French with English surtitles (English translations above the stage).
SYNOPSIS:
Manman La Mer tells the story of Marjolaine, gifted with the power to know the future. Encouraged by her mother, the child stifles her gift of clairvoyance. But twenty-six years later, devastated by a mysterious and incurable illness, she has no choice but to go to Haiti and rely on the good care of her grandmother, Manman La Mer… a midwife? A mystic or a simple grandmother full of love? Manman La Mer puts women and Haitian spirituality in the spotlight, and explores with humour and authenticity the themes of mother-daughter relationships while vibrating to the rhythm of traditional Haitian tales.
Written and performed by DJENNIE LAGUERRE
