Volunteer Gardeners Wanted

Do you love gardening and theatre? Are you looking for a volunteer opportunity?

Persephone Theatre is recruiting a Volunteer Garden Team Leader!

We are looking for someone who:

• Has gardening experience
• Knowledgeable about plant and soil
• Are able to lead a team of volunteers
• A truck is beneficial but not necessary

The Volunteer Garden Team Lead was previously held by a team of two, so if you’d like a partner in gardening, they can apply with you!

What does the Volunteer Garden Team Lead do?

• Spring:
  • Assess condition of garden beds and determine needs
    • Is the soil ok or is more needed?
    • Is the soil in good health?
    • Purchase and apply what is needed
  • Choose what plants should be required
    • Check what perennials there are in the bed
    • Plan out your flower bed
    • Decide what plants need to be purchased
  • Set dates for purchasing plants and planting garden
  • Purchase plants (Time: approx. 3 hours)
    • Plants are purchased from Floral Acres – Persephone has a sponsorship discount
    • Volunteer will not be responsible for the cost of the plants and materials!
  • Plant with volunteer team (Time: approx. 4-5 hours)
    • Weekday planting is best – theatre is open 9-5
    • Instruct on cleaning and prepping the beds
    • Instruct on plant placement
  • Help recruit a planting team
    • With help from Persephone admin
  • Maintain the garden beds throughout the summer
    • Checking
    • Weeding
    • Maintaining
    • Flower bed is set up with programmed watering system
