ELF – The Musical is the hilarious tale of Buddy the Elf, who as a child mistakenly crawled into Santa’s bag of gifts and was transported to the North Pole. Buddy is unaware that he is actually human, but eventually his enormous size and poor toy-making abilities cause him to face the truth. With Santa’s permission, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father, discover his true identity, and help New York remember the true meaning of Christmas. This modern day holiday classic is sure to make everyone embrace their inner ELF.

Neil has been working across Canada for thirty years and it has taken him this long to get to Saskatchewan! (He is very excited about it.) Since graduating from National Theatre School in 1988 he has appeared with Geordie Productions, Canadian Stage Company, Theatre Passe Muraille, National Arts Centre, Alberta Theatre Projects, Geva Theatre Center (Rochester NY), Tarragon Theatre, Studio 180, Acting Up Stage, Theatre North West, The Grand Theatre, Theatre Aquarius, The Capitol Theatre and, most recently, Drayton Entertainment in their acclaimed production of 12 Angry Men in Grand Bend and Cambridge ON. In 1990 Neil joined the acting ensemble of the Shaw Festival in Niagara-on-the-Lake ON where he has been seen in more than sixty productions. Following the holiday season in Christmastown he will be returning to Shaw for his 30th season to play in Charley’s Aunt and Trouble in Mind.

Alyssa is born and raised on Treaty 6 and jazzed to be in a Persephone musical! Recently, you may have seen her as Rosencrantz in Rozencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead (Persephone) or Frosch in Die Fledermaus (Saskatoon Opera). She is also a recent SATA nominee for Outstanding Emerging Artist. Taylor Skye Hanley is one thrilled 11 year old, excited to be playing the part of Michelle in Elf, the Musical! Taylor absolutely loves performing, whether it be singing, acting or dancing on a stage, in front of a camera or just around the house. Taylor’s theatrical debut was in 2018 in the SSP’s production of the musical Annie playing the orphan Tessie. Also last year, Taylor flew to Ontario to write and record her first original pop single called Sing, and then returned to Ontario later that year to portray the character Elizabeth in the award winning web-series called The Vault. This year has been equally exciting with Taylor not only being cast in Elf, but releasing her second original song & music video called Dancing on The Beach and booking the role of Shauna in the short film The Events at Unity Farm which just wrapped filming in Alberta this Sept. Taylor has performed on Global News, CTV and has been booked to sing our National Anthem at several Blades hockey games this season. Mark dedicates his performance to the memory of his late mother — who first taught him voice and fostered his love of theatre. Benjamin is thrilled to be back in his hometown of Saskatoon! He first discovered his love for theatre in Persephone’s Youth Programs, as well as by being a part of the 2008 production of A Christmas Carol on this very stage. He graduated in May from the acting program at the National Theatre School of Canada in Montreal, QC, where he had the privilege of learning from some of Canada’s top theatre artists, and playing in shows such as Cloud 9, Macbeth, and 7 Stories. Outside of acting, Benjamin has a fierce love of baseball, and his family.

Lindsay is a Jessie-nominated actor, singer, dancer, musician and educator based in Vancouver, BC and is making her Persephone Theatre debut in this magical show! It’s a joy to spend Christmas at Persephone Theatre, which has held a place in Deborah’s heart ever since she began working in the Box Office in the early ’90s. Once Tibor Feheregyhazi gave her the chance to direct music for the first time, the shows (and years) started to add up: Buddy Holly Story, Evita, Beauty and the Beast, Sound of Music, Mary Poppins, 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Urinetown, Little Women, and many other Persephone productions. Deb is also grateful for lasting creative relationships with Dancing Sky, Stations Arts, and Rosebud Theatre. She is recipient of two SATAwards, for Outstanding Contribution to Theatre. She was recently seen as Icarius in Ferre Play’s The Penelopiad and Polonius in Hamlet. Deb sings in the Juno-nominated Canadian Chamber Choir, which has just released the recording Seasons of Life and Landscape.

David is a long-time member of Saskatoon’s music community and has been a part of the pit orchestras for many of the musicals produced at Persephone Theatre. Just a few of his favorites would include, Menopositive, Nunsense, Three Penny Opera, Beauty and the Beast, Little Shop of Horrors, Evita and the Sound of Music. Other musicals in different venues include Andrew Lippa’s jon & jen (Live 5), Steven Soundheim’s Assassins, and Into the Woods (Greystone Theatre). He has also performed many times in the percussion section of the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra over the past 30 years. David is very pleased to be returning to Persephone to be part of Deb’s music team once again.

Composer, performer, and educator Paul Suchan graduated with a B.Mus/B.Mus Ed (2007) from the University of Saskatchewan and M.Mus in Composition (2012) from the Université de Montréal where he studied with composer Alan Belkin. Mr. Suchan’s compositions have been performed across Canada, the United States and Europe by leading university ensembles, symphony orchestras, jazz ensembles, community groups, choirs, small ensembles and others. He is the Co-Founder of the Strata Festival of New Music, an annual 3 day festival dedicated to high quality performances and commissions of Saskatchewan and Prairie composers. He is currently based in Saskatoon.
Reeds
Gerard Weber has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in Canada, the United States, Germany, Switzerland, and the Netherlands, and has performed as a soloist with the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra, the Regina Symphony Orchestra, and the University of Florida Orchestra. Gerard is currently based in Saskatoon as a performer and private instructor, in addition to teaching as a sessional lecturer in the University of Saskatchewan Department of Music. In Saskatoon, Gerard frequently performs with a number of musical organizations, including the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra, the Saskatoon Jazz Orchestra, the North Saskatchewan Wind Symphony, the Strata New Music Festival (www.sasknewmusic.com), and the SaskTel Saskatchewan Jazz Festival.
Trombone
A frequent performer with numerous musical organizations in Saskatoon such as the Symphony, Jazz bands, Klezmer, or Chamber groups, Brian is pleased to be part of Elf: The Musical. His last performance with Persephone was Urinetown in 2011, but he is no stranger to musical theatre, having been musical director for many high school productions and accompanied theatre orchestras for the Saskatoon Summer Players and Saskatoon Opera. He looks forward to enhancing your Christmas season with today’s performance.

Arri is honoured and excited to be making her musical debut with Persephone Theatre. An accomplished dancer with Sitter School of Dance and Saskatoon Salsa Dance Co., Arri has performed in several competitions and on stages across North America including New York, Las Vegas, and Puerto Rico. Arri also enjoys playing ringette, taking care of her many animals, and staying connected to her Métis and Ecuadorian roots through family and cultural activities.

Kai is excited to return to Persephone for Elf, having appeared as Michael in Mary Poppins. In grade nine at Aden Bowman, Kai’s recent credits include The Curate Shakespeare’s As You Like It (Bowman Players), Shrek, and Caberet (Saskatoon Summer Players), several shows with SaskExpress including Beauty and the Beast, Into the Woods, and JD in the upcoming production of Heathers. Recent film credits include a video for Affinity Credit Union and a short film for Floor Thirteen Films. Kai is in awe of this amazing cast and wishes everyone the most magical holiday season!

Jenna is happy to be returning to Persephone, having last appeared as Jane Banks in Mary Poppins. Jenna is currently in grade 10 at Holy Cross and in addition to being in the band and choir, she recently played Ariel in her school’s production of The Little Mermaid. Along with studying acting, voice and dance, Jenna’s experience includes a number of musical productions with SaskExpress, a film with Floor Thirteen Films, and a feature in Teen Look Magazine. Eden Friggstad is very excited to make her Persephone debut in this holiday production of Elf: The Musical. Eden is a grade 4 student at Lakeridge School. She has been dancing with Studio One in Saskatoon since she was 4 years old in many types of dance including ballet, tap, jazz, acro, hip hop, contemporary and lyrical. She also studies piano and voice and has participated in Persephone Theatre summer camps.

Luke couldn’t be happier to be joining the Children’s Chorus in Persephone Theatre’s production of Elf. Luke loves the challenge and thrill of performing. His favourite musical theatre role was Cogsworth in Beauty & the Beast Jr. (Sask Express Studio). He has also performed in Shrek Jr., Seussical, and The Lion King Jr. (Sask Express Studio) and is a new member of the Mini Express performance group. Sarah Rodgers has a special history with Persephone Theatre. She was hired, years ago, to do her very first professional production, as an actor, by director Henry Woolf to appear in Something’s Afoot. Sarah was also thrilled to bring her hit production of Billy Bishop Goes to War to the Persephone in 2009. Sarah had a wonderful time directing Persephone’s production of Treasure Island nominated for six SATAward nominations. Sarah is a busy director based in Vancouver: highlights: Lila (Rosebud Theatre); The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, The Christians (Pacific Theatre); The Audience (The Arts Club Stanley Alliance Theatre); And Bella Sings (Firehall Theatre); Cinderella (Theatre Under the Stars). Set Designer
Born in Rosetown Saskatchewan, Cameron is one of Canada’s most distinguished set and costume designers and a veteran of the Canadian stage. After studying design at the Wimbledon School of Art in London, England, Cameron returned to Canada as the Design Director for the Vancouver Playhouse (1972-81 ) and then Head of Design for the Shaw festival (1980-97).
Porteous has designed over 300 productions for theatre stages across Canada and has also had an extensive career designing for opera, film, and television. Risking the Void, a 40 year design retrospective of his life’s work was showcased at the Prague Quadrennial in 2012 and published by Theatre Museum Canada.
Cameron’s awards include a Queens Jubilee Medal for contributions to Canadian Theatre. He has served on the Canada Council in an advisory capacity and has taught design at Banff Centre for the Arts and Ryerson University.
It has been a privilege to return to my home province to design for the Saskatoon Opera and now Persephone Theatre.

Bonnie is always happy to return to Persephone. Last season she designed costumes for Fiddler on the Roof and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead. Previously for Persephone, she designed for Hedda Gabler, Pride and Prejudice, Treasure Island and A Christmas Carol. Bonnie has designed costumes and sets for theatres in many provinces, including Prince Edward Island, where she spends her summer at The Charlottetown Festival. She is a member of ADC.

Clinton Ackerman has a diverse artistic practice working as a composer, sound designer, and music educator. He has an MFA in Interdisciplinary Studies, with a focus on music and social work, from the University of Regina. Collaboration is central to Clinton’s creative practice and he has enjoyed composing/designing for many theatre productions around Saskatchewan, including Persephone Theatre, Sum Theatre, and Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan. As a community-engaged artist, he facilitates creative arts programming with youth in and around Regina for the holistic benefits the arts promote.
Stage Manager
Laura has been involved in Theatre for 40 years and has stage managed over 200 Productions. The first 10 years of her career were spent in Ontario. She studied Theatre at the University of Waterloo, then worked for the National Arts Centre, Upper Canada Playhouse and The Great Canadian Theatre Company, who enabled her to take a show to Expo 86 in Vancouver. The last 30 years Laura has been based in Saskatoon, where the first couple of years were spent with Twenty-Fifth Street Theatre. She then did the Ontario tour of “Romeo & Juliette” for Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan and continued working with them for over 20 years. Laura also started with Persephone Theatre around the same time and has stayed for over 25 years. She received the Henry Woolf Award for lifetime achievement in 2012.
Stage Manager
Liz is a born and raised Saskatchewanian though she currently lives in Victoria, BC. She is absolutely ecstatic to get a chance to complete the Stones in His Pockets journey that started two and a half years ago. Elsewhere Liz has worked in theatres across Canada including Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan, the Chemainus Theatre Festival, Globe Theatre, the Arts Club, Gwaandak Theatre, and the Stratford Festival. Liz spent the Lost Years as the Operations Manager for the Victoria Symphony. Liz has run one marathon and had one big mountain biking crash. She is okay with never experiencing either ever again.
Apprentice Stage Manager
Mackenzie is a Saskatoon-based theatre artist, and a graduate from the University of Saskatchewan’s BFA Acting program. He is excited to join the Persephone stage management team for the first time. Stage management credits include The Young Ones (Sum Theatre), Alone @ Home (Gordon Tootoosis Nīkānīwin Theatre), Season’s Greetings (Greystone Theatre). You might have seen him in Scapin (La Troupe du Jour), Manuscript (Channel Theatre), For Art’s Sake and Jabber (Persephone Theatre), The Merry Wives of Windsor and Titus A. puppet revenge (Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan). Upcoming projects include stage managing for Every Brilliant Thing (Burnt Thicket Theatre), Unmasked (Yin Yang Theatre/ Live Five), and writing for the Short Cuts Festival (Hardly Art). He spends his free time hiking in the backcountry with his partner Megan, trying not to get lost. Big thanks to Megan and my family for their love and support!
