Persephone Theatre needs $2M for a full roof repair despite attempts to patch it up
CBC News ·
Saskatoon’s Persephone Theatre is temporarily shutting down to get a new roof, which the theatre said will cost $2M.
Persephone will close operations starting June 24. Breanne Harmon, the executive director at Persephone, said they have frequently patched the roof over the last decade, but now the roof is beyond repair.
“I am surrounded by a number of children’s kiddie pools, a bunch of buckets, and tarps on the ground which are here to capture all the water as it continually pulls down from our damaged roof,” she said.
Harmon said she was told by architects last summer that the roof needs an immediate replacement because it only had a year’s life left.

Note from Persephone Theatre: We would like to make it clear, Persephone will have limited access during renovations. Theatre School and other scheduled programs in other areas of the building will continue as planned this summer and the general public will have access again when the 50th season begins in September. Thank you to Malcolm and Marilyn Leggett, who have committed to donate $300,000 over three years – 2023, 2024 and 2025 – to kick off Persephone’s capital campaign, and are inviting others to join them in the pursuit of a new roof.
