Review: The Fiancée is a fun, entertaining farce that could stand to up the ante

What happens when you accept three wedding proposals? Hilarity ensues, according to Persephone Theatre’s show running to Dec. 18.

It’s shortly after the end of the Second World War, and things seem to be returning to a state of stability for the country and our protagonist Lucy (Ali Watson).

She enters her apartment triumphant, holding enough money for rent and the final volume to complete her set of encyclopedias — “from A to Zed”, this Canada-set farce by playwright Holly Lewis notes.

When Lucy’s sister Rose (Jameela McNeil) arrives home shortly later, she bemoans the returning men having cost her her factory job. As she’s about to learn, they’ll be doing far more to disturb her peace.
