PRODUCTION DESCRIPTION:
An Indigenous man, Arthur Copper, is repopulating the nearby lakes with wild rice, much to the disapproval of the local non-Indigenous cottagers, Maureen Poole in particular. A self-proclaimed “Starbucks girl”, she is growing to resent the eyesore that interferes with boating, swimming and worst of all is bringing down the property values of her cottage and those of her neighbours. Cottagers & Indians is a powerful dramatization of contemporary confrontations taking place between environmentalism and consumerism. It draws a stark focus on Indigenous land rights.
