Artist Working Group Update – June 4, 2021

It is June. It is just past the one year mark of Blackout Tuesday, the initiative that came out of Black Lives Matter and the response to the murder of George Floyd. Almost one year that Persephone has been without an artistic director. It is time.

The hiring committee has been meeting to craft the questions that will form the basis of the interviews that are scheduled to begin in two weeks. Developed in response to what the community told us over the early months of 2021, the interviews are meant to be as open and as forward-looking as was the call for artistic leadership.

We would still like to see more applications from a diversity of potential leaders, and the intention is to have the new leader or leaders in the chair in September. Once again, we are asking you disseminate the call amongst your networks, to make sure it has reached the right people, so that we have the opportunity to have conversations with the artistic leaders who might be inspired to lead Persephone through the necessary change of the next few years.
